tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-89934080220392920582011-04-21T13:35:08.056-07:00Individual Project By Denise WilliamsDenise Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08885712904020370098noreply@blogger.comBlogger11100tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8993408022039292058.post-6128342454594501862007-03-18T06:13:00.000-07:002007-03-18T06:54:39.800-07:00In the past few weeks this subject has been in the news quite a bit which, I have found interesting to follow and thought would be a good subject in relation to PR.<br />This subject that I am talking about is the Phone In scandals starting from Richard and Judy 'You say we pay' competition to ITV1's late night interactive game show even to the long running, repuatable, respectable, children friendly Blue Peter!<br />Basically, what is casuing this uproar is that viewers are getting ripped off and lied to by being invited to call premium rate numbers to enter competitions or vote for their favourite 'celebrity' on the latest reality show, when in fact they're getting charged £1 for these calls but the competition has already closed and winners have already been chossen.<br />That's if there is a genuine winner of course!<br />Many shows have been called into question such as Saturday Kitchen, X Factor,Soapstar Superstar and Ant And Dec Saturday Night Takeaway about just how genuine they really are. When a show has already been pre recorded yet claims they are live and set up phone ins/competition surely this is not committing a form of fraudulent behaviour?<br />As all this started to come to light there was an example of one of these shows being caught out, which, was reported in a national newspaper. The show in question was Saturday Kitchen, which goes 'live' on air in morning yet a close up of one of the chef/presenter's wrist watch showed that it was actually after 2pm.<br />This has been a serious wake up call for TV bosses as they have had to stop competitions or even cancel shows(Channel 4, ITV and Channel 5) in reaction to these findings and is just the start in doing some major damage control and limintation. The thing that these bosses and producers will have to do now, which is imperative in order to keep their viewers on side is rebuild the trust that has been lost by the viewing public.<br />How can trust be rebuilt when channel 5's lunchtime interactive quiz Brainteaser sets a competition during an ad break, doesn't get any correct answers in that time so uses one of their own production team to pretend to be the winning contestant?<br />It's going to take more than just some clever PR to get themselves out of this sticky situation!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/8993408022039292058-612834245459450186?l=icklehoneydew.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>Denise Williamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08885712904020370098noreply@blogger.com0
